Rice Tests

Rice Tests

Do you need to conduct Rice tests to determine the specific gravity of an asphalt sample? Forney has all of the Rice testing equipment you’re looking for, ensuring a smooth and accurate evaluation process. With Rice tests, you can precisely determine how much air void there is in a sample and indicate the absorption levels of your aggregate bitumen material.

If the air void level in your asphalt is too high, the pavement might be too easily susceptible to moisture damage and fatigue. On the other hand, a low rate of air void can make the pavement ripple or wave on the surface, resulting in an uneven finished product. With high-quality Rice testing equipment from Forney, you can rest easy knowing that your asphalt has the appropriate amount of air in it.

Forney’s inventory of Rice testing equipment starts with our CoreLok machines, which can determine the bulk specific gravity of compacted samples, the maximum specific gravity of asphalt mixtures, and the apparent gravity, bulk gravity, and absorption levels in an aggregate sample. We offer these machines in 220V and 120V versions, both of which include built-in computer processors to calculate gravity and absorption levels.

We also offer vacuum pycnometers for use in Rice tests, allowing you to measure the maximum specific gravity of bituminous paving mixtures. These units come with a water inlet valve, a ¼” hose, a vacuum gauge, a vacuum hose, and an aspirator. As always, Forney also stocks every Rice testing accessory under the sun, providing you with the ideal Rice testing equipment for your application.
