Superpave

Superpave

Superpave mix design has become increasingly popular over the last few decades, ever since the U.S. Transportation Research Board urged the development of more durable paving materials for highways in 1984. Superpave revolves around three core components, the first of which involves classifying different kinds of asphalt binders based on the effects of temperature and age on the material. Secondly, Superpave is tailored to maintain excellent performance under high traffic loads and a wide variety of environmental effects. Finally, Superpave mix design has analytic testing models to help predict performance in many different conditions.

Forney’s inventory includes many products that can help you test materials used in Superpave mix design. Our bending beam rheometers comply with Superpave requirements and allow you to perform flexural tests on asphalt binder and bitumen. These devices apply a constant force to a sample in a chilled bath, then measure the rate of deformation at various temperatures.

Another popular product in our Superpave asphalt testing inventory is our rolling thin film oven, which analyzes the effect of heat and air on a sample of semi-solid asphalt. This machine has a maximum temperature of 390 degrees and includes digital temperature control, temperature protection, a removable eight-bottle carousel, a stainless steel interior, and leveling legs.

In addition, Forney has a wide variety of Superpave mix design accessories. We offer rotational viscometers, replacement bottles and tongs for our rolling thin film ovens, bottle scrapers, bottle cooling racks, silicone rubber mold sets, and much more. Superpave mix design is one of Forney’s specialties, and you’ll find all of the products you need in our inventory.
