Special Tests

If you want to determine how an aggregate will hold up against disintegration due to freeze-thaw cycles, you’ll need to run a sulfate soundness test. To do so, you can submerge your aggregate sample into water that’s saturated with either magnesium sulfate or sodium. By analyzing how much salt forms in the aggregate’s porous openings and determining the weight loss for the sample, you can assess its freeze-thaw resistance.

Forney has everything you need to assemble a sulfate soundness test set, including washing tanks, sample sieves, sieve holders, precision thermometers, water bath tanks, immersion buckets, magnesium hydrometers, and more. If you’re wondering which of our many options you should select for your project, contact one of our expert team members and we’ll help you figure it out!

No one makes this examination easier than Forney, thanks to our organic impurities test set.
