Direct Tension System

Direct Tension System
Used to evaluate the stiffness and failure properties of asphalt binders at low "in-service" temperatures. Direct tension data used in conjunction with Bending Beam Rheometer data provides a more complete characterization of the asphalt binder. In addition, the direct tension system predicts the temperature at which thermal cracking would occur in the actual roadway. Simple operation makes this system ideal for QC/QA or R&D testing. Evaluated by the FHWA, it meets all current and proposed specifications in accordance with Superpave as required by SHRP including AASHTO, ASTM, the Binder Expert Task Group, and the FHWA. System includes stiff load frame capable of loads in excess of 500N, fluid bath reservoir and chiller capable of temperature stability meeting the required ± 0.1°C, completely automatic Windows,™ based operating and data acquisition system, system verification standard, and 6 specimen molds with end tabs which met AASHTO, TP 3
