The Standard Proctor Test is used in the laboratory to determine the optimum moisture content and maximum dry unit weight from a representative soil sample taken from the construction site. It is also known as the "Moisture-Density Relationship” Test or "Ordinary” Compaction and is suitable for particles no larger than 20mm. The FORNEY Starter Kit supplies everything needed to conduct this test. FORNEY Starter Kit items: Compaction Hammer, 5.5 lb (2.5 kg) Mold Straight Edge, beveled Spoon Knife Sample Ejector Pan Moisture Can Wash Bottle Bench Oven Scale This original test was introduced by R R Proctor in the USA in 1933. Since that time, heavier earth moving and compacting machinery have become common and now higher densities are obtainable, so tests using increased energy compaction are also known as Proctor. FORNEY provides everything needed to conduct these tests. For higher density compaction, Modified AASHTO, add: Compaction Hammer 10 lb (4.55 kg) Mold 6 in (15.2 cm) Most Test Labs are already conducting sieve analysis and a wide range of tests that are related to soil testing. Therefore our Starter Kit only provides equipment which is specific to Standard Proctor and Modified AASHTO.
